A FORMER Canon Australia technical adviser who previously lived in Sydney all his life, has opened a computer, computer upgrade and home-theatre business at Dapto.
Brett Maxwell decided to establish Computer Techniques Australia when he grew tired of commuting after moving to Wollongong 18 months ago.
``It just got too much," he said.
Mr Maxwell said he found he was now a lot more easygoing and he enjoyed taking the business directly to the customer.
Operating a small home-based business also provided him with an opportunity to offer a good level of personal service.
Computer Techniques Australia was already receiving a lot of repeat business from happy customers and Mr Maxwell said he may eventually have to open a shop front.
The business provides free house calls. Fees only apply when work starts on a computer or home theatre.
Mr Maxwell, who has been in the computer industry for nine years, said his business provided sales, service and repairs, handled custom-made systems and offered home-theatre products featuring popular brand names such as OMNI, Pioneer and NEC.
``We have found that business is steadily increasing due to our lower hourly rate, free pick-up and delivery service and customer satisfaction," he said.
``We get a lot of business from customers who are not satisfied with their custom-built and name brand packages from other suppliers and their disappointment in the after-sales service from these companies."
Mr Maxwell said being a home-based business meant there were less overheads. That made it easier to keep prices down and to pass on savings to customers.
Computer Techniques Australia can be contacted 24 hours a day on 42619198.
